Bookmarking Power in Numbers
This is a method that you could use on social bookmarking sites like Digg or Reddit to give your submissions a little bit of an advantage over the submissions of others. It can easily be applied to other social bookmarking websites, and in each case it is a good way to give your websites a boost in traffic and back links. The method is very simple in theory, but it does take some patience, and is a bit on the black hat side.
By creating multiple accounts and bookmarking your website a few times rather than once, it can make your submissions look more appealing to the masses, and potentially get you a lot of other bookmarks/views.
- First, choose a social bookmarking website you would like to try and dominate, and create 5 accounts on it. It would be very wise to use a proxy when signing up so the accounts wouldn’t all be linked together and banned. Since creating multiple accounts on a website usually isn’t allowed.
- Next, on each account that you created bookmark, add friends, and join groups. Preferably things related to what you will be submitting from your own website. (This is especially relevant on digg, because your friends will be recommended articles based on how similar the things you digg are) So add friends from the same category that you are digging and submitting to. Hopefully I worded that in a way that makes sense.
- Let your accounts age for about a week, but every day you should be adding more friends and bookmarking things. You might also want to take the time to weed out the people who didn’t become mutual friends with you.
- After about a week or two you could start submitting content from your website. Use your most authoritative account to make the submission, and then bookmark it with your other 4 accounts. Remember to use proxies when logging in so that the accounts aren’t linked together.
- You could use 1 or 2 of your accounts to write comments on the submission, add to favorites, or share with others (if the website has that functionality. Digg no longer has the shout feature)
From there however many bookmarks you get depends on how the bookmarking site works. I would suggest using plugins like digg-digg to add links so that your blog readers could easily submit your site to social bookmarking websites. The more readers that come to your website from social bookmarking sites, the more readers you will have to submit your content to the bookmarking site. So over time, your presence on a social bookmarking website will get stronger and stronger.
